Did March come in like a lamb or a lion this year? Sunday dawned with the usual Oregon rain showers. Monday was much better with sun breaks between the clouds, much the same as today. I’m just glad to see winter on the way out and spring getting close. Our crocuses are blooming and the green tips of the daffodils are getting taller.
Pete has been fighting the nasty bug that has been going around for way too long now. It has hit hard this year, with many people we know getting really sick and some even being hospitalized. Pete ended up with bronchitis and ear infections. He’s been on antibiotics for several days and is finally feeling well enough to be up and about a little. His head is still so stuffy that he hasn’t been able to hear for over a week. He was beginning to wonder if that was to be permanent. Then yesterday one ear popped for just an instant. That gave him some hope that this may end yet.
We have been adopted by a stray cat. Stray cats are fairly common around here. I think people dump them hoping someone will take them in. This one decided to stay. She helped herself to Gracie’s food and then took up residence in the shop, sleeping in Gracie’s bed. That wasn’t much of a problem since Gracie stays in the house most of the time now. (She will be 16 years old this year. She has been an outside cat most of her life but as she gets older she has decided her old bones need to be pampered.) We stopped putting food in the outside dish, but the stray didn’t leave. She was a little skittish but we could tell that she has been around people. It didn’t take long to realize that she is pregnant. I don’t have the heart to turn her away now, especially since she looks to be due any day. She is now getting regular meals and is really very friendly and sweet. We may still take her to the animal shelter, but will wait until the kittens are born and try to find homes for them. So for now we are a two-cat family with more on the way.

The picture is Gracie, in her usual pose.
